Get a round of seamless editing. Screenplay editing service entails trimming and revising scenes for clarity where needed. Long scene headings, extraneous action lines, non-sequiturs, and rambling dialogue will be edited, using the editor's discretion, to improve the readability of the script. Some scenes will be cut if they do not serve the plot. We accept film and TV scripts, including shooting scripts and short scripts. The minimum script page requirement to use this service is 20 pages. We edit for pacing, continuity, emotional impact, and story logic. Please note this is not a co-writing or script feedback service.

If you are seeking an experienced screenplay editor to edit your film or TV script, get with us. We are an award-winning script consulting and editing company with clients worldwide. They include writers and filmmakers with deals at companies such as Creative Artists Agency, Netflix, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures and other multi-media production companies. Most of our clients are experienced screenwriters (repped writers), directors, and producers in the film and TV industry. They include industry professionals who have worked on major Oscar-winning animated feature films. We also edit TV pilot scripts. We have edited scripts that got picked up by investors -- and filmmakers who have won the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards.

We are the go-to place where writers, producers, and directors often go to get high-quality script editing at a reasonable rate. Our clients include award-winning filmmakers and writers who are represented by reputable literary agencies and management companies who simply want a fresh pair of keen eyes to read and edit their scripts.

Some of our clients have described our script editing service as stylistic editing. They like how we refine words and phrases to smooth out the language for clarity. We also lift out redundancies to help tighten up the story and improve its pacing. We have clients worldwide, including filmmakers and writers in India, Italy, South Africa, Sweden, and Africa. It does not matter if you are an ocean away. We can help you edit your feature film scripts and TV series pilot scripts.

If you are new to screenwriting, you should consider getting script formatting service with us. We can bundle script formatting service and editing service together in one e-invoice for you to place your order. Email your script to info@thescriptjoint.com and tell us you want to get the total cost for both services. Be sure to read our "Acceptable Files to Submit" section on this page prior to submitting your script. Once we receive your script, we will look it over and email you the price and estimated turnaround time to complete both services. From there, if you decide to proceed with both services, we will email you a personalized e-invoice to get started. Because if you don't know how to write your story in proper industry script format, not only will seasoned producers not take you seriously, you will not know the true total page count (movie running time) of your script. And you will fall behind while other screenwriters quickly jump ahead of you.

We have regular clients who send us scripts, including shooting scripts, to edit. Some are rush projects with directors and investors attached. We also offer expedited editing service. Therefore, if you decide that you need editing done to your screenplay before going into preliminary casting or pitching your script to producers, use our award-winning script editing service. Get it in early. Our clients include producers who have their own production companies as well as those who have produced films starring A-list actors.

Our editor will do a nip and tuck on your script -- edit scenes and filler/confusing dialogue where the editor deems necessary. Editing will be done using the editor's discretion (judgment). Producers will love this because they don't want their production budgets to be needlessly inflated by shooting superfluous scenes on the set. Every scene, lighting, and camera setup takes time on the set, so you only want to shoot scenes that are important to the plot and characters. If you wish to save time and money on your film/TV production budget, have us edit your scripts to avoid reaching the "golden hours" on the set.

If you also need book editors, we also edit books, creative fiction and non-fiction, for some of Amazon's bestselling authors. Some of our clients are repped book authors who use our editing services to help them edit their novels and screenplay adaptations. For a price quote on book editing, email our customer support at the email listed below and attached your manuscript as a Word doc file. Tell us when you need the editing completed by so we can determine if we can meet your specific deadline.

If you need rush screenplay editing service, please email your script to our customer support team at info@thescriptjoint.com and let us know your desired turnaround time. If we can do expedited editing based on the turnaround time you want, we will email you a price quote for expedited service and arrange for you to place your order via e-invoicing.

Estimated Turnaround Time: 8 business days for a script that is 120 pages or less. Scripts received after 6 p.m. (PST) will be scheduled for editing the next business day. Email your script to: consultant@thescriptjoint.com

When submitting your screenplay, email it as the file type of the screenwriting software that you used to type your script -- and include your preferred turnaround time for proofreading service if you'd like to get pricing for proofreading. Please do NOT submit your script as a PDF or MS Word file.

If your screenplay exceeds 120 pages, please email it as the same file type as your screenwriting software to info@thescriptjoint.com for pricing and turnaround time. From there, we will arrange for you to place your order via e-invoicing. Turnaround time to edit a screenplay that is 120 pages or more may take more than 9 business days, depending on the page count and complexity of the screenplay.

The focus of this editing service is to improve your story's narrative drive/pacing by shaving off elements that bog down your story, where we see fit. We do not make guarantees as to how many pages we can trim off because it depends on the complexity of your story, the amount of characters in your story, and whether or not you know how to write your story in proper industry screenplay format. Use this editing service if you want to tighten your story's pacing and improve the readability of your script. Revised words or new words that we type in the script will show up in color for tracking purpose -- if your screenwriting software has "revision mode/tracking" feature. Asterisks will placed on the right-hand side of the script margins to signify deletions -- if the file type of your script is from a screenwriting software that has the "revision mode/tracking" feature.

What this screenplay editing service does NOT include: Providing story feedback service (aka script feedback/consulting), script doctoring service (ghostwriting/story rewriting), co-writing your script, fixing improperly formatted scenes (script formatting service), proofreading service, converting broken English to fluent English (we have a separate service for this), showing you how to use your screenwriting software, or troubleshooting technical errors/glitches in your script file.

Our script editing price is based on scripts that demonstrate a good grasp of the English sentence structure and industry standard formatting. Poorly formatted scripts and/or scripts with excessive grammar and spelling errors will require additional charges -- if you want us to correct them.

Please do NOT confuse screenplay editing service with rewriting service, script consulting service, or proofreading service. Those are different services. Proofreading is priced per word. A script editor is not the same as a proofreader. To help you understand the difference, in the book publishing world, the proofreader does the "final check" after a manuscript has gone through various stages of editing. There are four main types of editing. They are substantive editing (content editing), line editing (focuses more on stylistic editing), copy editing, and proofreading. There's a cost for each service.

For those who are unfamiliar with the role of a screenplay editor, or have never analyzed and edited at least 50 screenplays, please know that if your story contains a large cast of characters, a confusing or convoluted plot -- or if you don't know how to consistently write your scenes in proper screenplay format, your inexperience can cause your screenplay to have a page count of 120 pages or more. As a result, there is a high chance that you -- the screenwriter -- would also need to do more rewrites to shorten your plot and/or get script formatting service -- especially if you want your script's page count drastically reduced. Our screenplay editors cannot double up as script consultants or co-writers to provide free script feedback service and rewriting services to condense your plot -- or shave off characters to make your story dramatically shorter that way. Screenplay editing service is not the same as script doctoring service. If your screenplay contains a mix of screenwriting and novel book writing, our screenplay editor will edit around the novel book writing parts in your screenplay. But you would still need to put in the effort to learn how to write your story in proper screenplay format and do rewrites. Otherwise, other screenwriters will have an advantage over you.

Things to Know About Screenplay Editing Service: Screenplay editing does not mean that our editor will go hog wild and edit pages that don't need to be edited. To put it in layman's term, it means our screenplay editor has to read line by line and analyze every single page in your screenplay to see how the characters, dialogue, and plot play out -- in order to effectively determine what parts can be edited out of the script.

For those who are new to our screenplay editing service, please be advised that you are not paying for how many pages that get edited, you are paying for the service of having your screenplay read and analyzed page by page, and edited where the screenplay editor deems necessary. The screenplay editor has to comb through every line in your screenplay to determine what can be edited and then do the editing without creating plot holes -- and without taking away the voices of the characters. For example, for those who have never worked as professional screenplay editors cutting scripts for award-winning filmmakers and repped screenwriters -- something which we do, please know that a seasoned screenplay editor will not randomly shave off a bunch of pages of your screenplay simply because you want it much shorter. Arbitrarily shaving off pages would cause the story to unfold in an abrupt and illogical manner. It would create noticeable gaps in your story and chip away the relationships between the characters in the story. How much the editor can edit also depends on the complexity of your plot and how well you know how to convey your story in proper industry script format. The screenplay editor cannot act as your co-writer and rewrite your story to condense the plot for you -- because that is not part of screenplay editing service.

Our screenplay editing service should not be confused with story rewriting (script doctoring), script polishing, or script consulting service. Those are different services. A script editor is not the same as a script doctor (screenwriter hired to polish certain aspects of a script, such as rewriting to modify or shorten the plot). A screenplay editor is not a script formatter. It is your responsibility as the screenwriter to make sure your screenplay is in proper industry format before sending it in for editing. We are not obligated to give you free script consulting service or point out/correct your formatting errors at no extra cost. Those are different services that take up additional time, and you would need to pay for those services.

Screenplay editing service is not the same as script consulting service or script formatting service. Screenplay editors are not script consultants. It is the screenwriter's responsibility to master the basics of screenplay formatting. Our script editor will NOT be doubling up as a screenwriting coach, co-writer, or script consultant to render services that are beyond the scope of screenplay editing service. Screenplay editing does not mean our editors will perform non-editing related services such as doing story rewrites, correcting formatting errors, deleting characters, or condensing your plot, to get your script slimmed down to whatever page count you have in mind.

If you are a novice screenwriter, a novel book writer crossing over to screenwriting, or you have written only 1 to 3 screenplays, please know that if your screenplay contains a convoluted plot, large cast of characters, or you simply don't know the difference between novel book writing and screenwriting, we strongly recommend that you get screenplay formatting service, which we can easily send you an e-invoice to place your order. If you want your screenplay's page count (movie running time) to be much shorter, you must also do some rewrites or hire a script doctor to modify your plot and/or remove some characters out of the script. There is no room to be lazy in the screenwriting business. If you are a new screenwriter, you have to learn how to tell your story in proper industry script format and master your craft. If you are a filmmaker submitting your screenwriter's script for editing, you need to make sure your screenwriter knows the basics of screenplay formatting.

With that said, for the new screenwriters out there, please remember that our screenplay editing service is not a substitute for taking screenwriting class, getting script formatting service, or script consulting services. Those are vastly different services. The screenplay editor will edit the screenplay using the editor's judgment. The editor is not required to make edits on every single page because editing requires the editor to use the editor's judgment and story analytical skills to determine what can be edited from the screenplay. For example, if the editor reads page 10 of your screenplay and determines that the scenes on that page do not need to be edited, then the editor will keep that page as is. Also, bear in mind that that there is no scientific formula for us to predict how many pages we can cut out of your script. Hence, we don't make guarantees as to how many pages we can trim off because every screenplay is different. The editor has to use the editor's judgment to determine what to edit in the screenplay. It also depends on the condition of your screenplay and the way you write your story. You must know the difference between screenwriting and book writing. It is not part of our screenplay editing service to provide you with free one-on-one script consultation service to teach you how to distinguish between novel book writing and screenwriting.

If the screenplay you submit for editing contains novel book writing and other formatting errors, our screenplay editor will edit around those parts in the screenplay since it is not the screenplay editor's role to do the work of a script doctor, script consultant, and script formatter. By purchasing our screenplay editing service, you are agreeing to our terms of service. Additionally, for the newbies, please know that a script editor is not the same as a script doctor. Script doctoring service (rewriting service) is different from screenplay editing service. Script doctoring entails creatively writing in new scenes where necessary, and rewriting specific scenes or dialogue to help improve the story, characterizations, plot, and other elements in a script. Script doctors are allowed to make those types of creative changes to film/TV scripts -- not script editors.

A script doctor is a screenwriter who's hired by a film or TV production company or an independent producer to do uncredited work -- ghostwriting/rewriting to improve specific things in the script such as characterization, structure, dialogue, pacing, scene descriptions, and themes. Again, for those who are new to screenwriting, script doctors are screenwriters who are hired to fix (ghost co-write) certain aspects in a script such as reshaping a character's role in the story and/or streamlining the plot. Script doctors are given the creative license to do rewrites to refine or modify the story, themes, and other elements in the script.

For example, if you hired an editor for substantive editing, you would NOT be getting free proofreading service or script doctoring (script rewriting) service added on to the substantive editing service. Each service has its own turnaround time, and each requires a different skillset. A proofreader would NOT be doing line editing, substantive editing, or copy editing. And a script editor would not be serving as a script consultant, or as a script doctor to ghostwrite your script to condense or enhance your story.

Similarly, a substantive editor would not be doing the work of a proofreader. Most writing, especially manuscripts, must go through those four stages of editing before they get published. Proofreading traditionally focuses on the mechanics -- catching any typos, missing words, grammar errors, and misspellings that are missed in the copy editing stage.

Although we will -- as a courtesy -- correct some misuse of homonyms, commas, and quotation marks, that is not the main focus of our screenplay editing service. Therefore, getting your script edited is NOT a substitute for getting it proofread for typos -- which would be priced per word, not per page.

What is Editing for Continuity? If a character is introduced as John, but his name inexplicably changes to Johnny or some random name in the next scene, we will correct it accordingly. Similarly, if a character's home is introduced in the story as a house but is later, for unexplained reasons, is referred to as an apartment in the story -- we will correct that for you. Your script will be in better condition after it gets through editing with us.

Using the Screenwriting Software's Built-in Spellchecker

At no extra cost, after editing is done, we will run the built-in spellchecker that comes with the screenwriting software, depending on the screenwriting software you use. For example, if you submit your screenplay as a Movie Magic Screenwriter file type, we will use our Movie Magic software's spellchecker to do one round of spellcheck. But keep in mind that the software's spellchecker is not perfect -- it will catch most but not every single typo or missing words. This screenplay editing service is not a substitute for proofreading service. After you get the edited version of your screenplay from us, we advise you to proofread it.

If you need proofreading service as well, please email us your script as the file type of the screenwriting software you used, and let us know your desired turnaround time for the proofreading service.

You Must Use a Professional Screenwriting Software

Please note it is your responsibility to use a screenwriting software that has tracking feature so that you can track where edits/changes are made to your script.
