The key to effective storytelling is not just in the writing; it's in the editing style. We edit film and TV pilot scripts with precision. Long scene headings, extraneous action lines, non-sequiturs, and rambling dialogue will be edited to improve your story's pacing. If you are new to screenplay editing, please be advised that this is not a story rewriting service (script doctoring), script feedback service, or proofreading service.
The minimum page count requirement to use this service is 20 pages. If your screenplay is less than 20 pages, email your script as the file type of the screenwriting software you use to consultant@thescriptjoint.com to get a price quote with turnaround time. We edit for pacing, emotional impact, and story logic.
Est. Turnaround Time: 7 business days for a script that is 120 pages or less. The script must be written in proper format.
Note: This is a story editing service -- NOT a proofreading or checking-for-continuity error service. The script editing service involves only one round of story editing -- not multiple rounds of editing. It is not to be confused with script polishing service, script formatting, or story rewriting (ghostwriting service). This is NOT a proofreading, story rewriting, or script polishing service. After you receive the edited script from us, look it over, proofread it, and make any necessary changes before sending it to readers, producers, literary managers, agents, or production companies.
To get help proofreading your edited script, email us your preferred turnaround time. After we obtain the necessary details, we will promptly email you a price quote and our estimated turnaround time. Once you agree to proceed with our Script Proofreading service, we will promptly send you an e-invoice via email.
For quick information on our proofreading service, which checks for spelling and grammar errors, visit Script Proofreading service (priced per word).
This screenplay editing service involves editing your story -- shaving off superfluous dialogue and narratives in your script to help your story unfold at a better pace. A screenplay with superfluous dialogue and scene descriptions can add unnecessary confusion to your overall plot. Editing service is not the same as proofreading service, which we also offer as an add-on service. A proofreading edit is more technical.
Both proofreading and editing services are critical to successful screenwriting. While proofreading focuses on the surface -- checking for grammatical errors, punctuation, and typos -- screenplay editing delves into the heart of your story. Knowing the role of editing is vital.
Editing dives deeper. It's about assessing pacing, plot progression, character development, and overall narrative structure. A proofreader does not trim dialogue or cut out extraneous scenes or words in a script to improve the story's pacing. A story editor does that. Story editing requires "creative" skills and a knack for storytelling. Getting both editing and proofreading done can be the difference between a screenplay that simply reads well and one that captivates audiences. A great screenwriter knows both proofreading and story editing are invaluable tools in their writing arsenal.
Our screenplay editing service aims to improve the pacing and readability of your script. Some scenes will be cut if they do not serve the plot. We focus on enhancing your script while maintaining your distinct voice. We also edit faith-based scripts and based on true stories such as crime dramas and war stories. Although we will run the spellchecker in the screenwriting software at no extra cost to you and correct most misuse of homonyms and quotation marks, our screenplay editing service focuses on editing for pacing and emotional impact by trimming off non-essential information in the script.
The screenplay editing service does NOT include the following: Script feedback (aka script consulting), script doctoring service (ghostwriting/story rewriting/polishing), co-writing your script, fixing improperly formatted scenes (script formatting service), proofreading service, commenting on the script, converting broken English narratives to fluent English, providing technical support relating to your email account and computer, or any computer programs on your computer, laptop, tablet, and any electronic devices. For those who are not tech-savvy, please keep in mind that we do not provide technical or tutorial support relating to computers, email apps, or anything installed on your computer. These are third-party computer and tech-related products.
Novelists who are crossing over to screenwriting should know the following: If your screenplay contains a mix of screenwriting and novel book writing format, our screenplay editor cannot double up as your co-writer to fix formatting issues or creatively rewrite scenes to externalize information for the movie camera. Our editor will edit around the novel book writing parts -- if our editor determines that cutting those novelistic narratives will create plot holes or cut into the characters' personalities.
If you don't know how to convey/write your story in proper film or TV script format, it's likely that you, the writer, will need to do rewrites after the editing is done so that you can condense your plot -- if you want your script's page count to be greatly reduced. Editing does not mean that we will be reformatting your script and rewriting your story for free to condense your plot to drastically reduce the page count. As a screenwriter, you must know the difference between screenwriting and book writing.
